Benefits to the community:
Located at Bryce Resort in Basye, Virginia, Lake Laura is an integral part of the Shenandoah Valley landscape. It is treasured for its year ‘round recreational benefits including fishing, boating and swimming in the lake and hiking and biking on the surrounding trail. Lake Laura is also a beacon for wildlife including eagles, blue herons, ducks, geese and beavers.
Lake Laura has been collecting sediment for 40+ years and the south end of the lake has become increasingly shallow. The added nutrient-rich soil exacerbates vegetation growth throughout the lake during the prime summer season. The Friends of Lake Laura spearheaded a fundraising effort to pay for removing some of this sediment and helping with vegetation abatement. Returning the lake to a pristine state will enhance the experience for all visitors to Lake Laura.
