Due to a high level of interest, we are starting a regular update on the status of the Lake Laura dam work, the lake drawdown, and sediment removal.
According to Rob Schwartz, Bryce Resort GM, the resort’s plan is to start drawing down the lake 6 weeks before the “first shovel in the ground.” (The Lord Fairfax Soil and Water Conservation District and the Commonwealth control the schedule for starting the dam work. The resort will coordinate its plans with the LFSWCD’s schedule.)
Based on previous discussions with the LFSWCD, the resort still expects that the dam work will be start this fall/winter. The resort’s current guess for “first shovel in the ground” is sometime in November.
The current plan is to start the Lake Laura draw down in late September and draw down the lake at a rate of 6 inches per day.
The resort is scheduled to receive an update from the LFSWCD in the upcoming week. As soon as we get feedback from that meeting and the resort’s plans, we will post an update here and on our FaceBook page.
