Representatives of Bryce Resort met with staff from the VA Department of Conservation and Recreation (the Commonwealth agency responsible for the dam contract) last week. DCR (and other Commonwealth agencies) have been busy obtaining construction easements, conducting total searches, and obtaining final agency sign-offs. DCR is now expecting to advertise the Lake Laura dam work in the January/February timeframe with award sometime on the May/June timeframe. At the request of the resort, DCR believes that they can minimize the possibility of impacting Lake Laura during the summer of 2015 by scheduling the work to start at Birdhaven first.
So, the resort is expecting to have full access to Lake Laura during the Summer of 2015. Other than the regularly scheduled winter drawdown of Lake Laura to combat vegetation growth, the resort is not planning on draining the lake until the dam work commences in the Fall of 2015.
As we get more information from the Resort and/or DCR, we will post updates on this page.
