As Memorial Day approaches, Lake Laura lovers are understandably curious about the status of the dam restoration work.
DCR (VA Department of Conservation and Recreation) published an Invitation for Bids on February 27, 2015. Four pre-qualified bidders responded by the bid due date of April 1, 2014 with bids ranging from $7.7M to $11.2M. Based on DCR’s previous statements to Bryce Resort representatives, we should expect contract award to occur 90 days after bid due date.
All indications are that DCR still plans to start work at Bird Haven so the Resort anticipates a successful summer 2015 operation.
As reported in the last several updates, the draining of Lake Laura in support of the dam restoration work will be planned and announced when the schedule for the work on the dam is finalized. The Resort currently expects the draining to occur sometime in the Fall/Winter of 2015.
As we get more information from the Resort and/or DCR, we will post updates on this page. But, the good news is that Lake Laura will be available for recreational purposes this summer!
