Status Update for Dam Work and Sediment Removal Effort

8/7/2015

The Lake Laura drawdown is well underway. (For pictures, check out the Friends of Lake Laura FaceBook page.) The construction firm, ACI, is on site and busy preparing for construction activities. ASI continues to expect that the dam work can be completed this fall and that Lake Laura will be available for summer operations for 2016.

On August 6, representatives of the Resort meet with Racey Engineering to discuss the status of the sediment removal effort. (Bryce Resort has hired Racey Engineering to perform engineering, permitting, and project management activities related to the sediment removal.) The Racey Engineering staff presented planning drawings for the sediment removal effort and discussed the status of the permitting effort and procurement strategies. Permits from the VA Department of Environmental Quality should be finalized in the next 30 days, allowing the Resort to request bids for the effort. A more precise schedule for the sediment removal effort should be available once the bidding process has started.

As always, as we receive news, we will post it here.

Is it ASI or ACI? And, the link is still dead...I was at the lake this wknd...8/9/15, water is down to just a deep pool, it smells like a sewer, and even IF finished on time, fishing the lake is done for at least 2-3 years. Sad.

Thank you for describing the status of the lake as of Aug. 09; this seems to be the only published info about it.
Will you - or someone - do this again (for example, by commenting here) in the next few weeks, too? It would be good to have details that way.

Was out this past weekend (8/30) and took a look; neat to see, all the water gone except about 2-3 feet deep pool in the end near the dam; could see some large fish still swimming about in the water. Work on the dam itself has not yet commenced on the lake side but much material has been moved to spillway ( lager flat area next to dam)
